Historical Cartoons
Warren Clark teamed up with action comics illustrator Bob Lewis in 1991. The cartoons first appeared as Lewis and Clark's Explorations of La Florida. In the early 1990s, the original black and white illustrations ran in more than 50 publications across Florida with a combined circulation over 500,000. The St. Augustine Historical Society hosted two different exhibits of these early cartoons for the June and July 2010 Art Walks.
Heritage Art Illustrations
Since then Warren has resumed creation of more finished heritage art images with a new name: Florida History Illustrations (formerly, Florida's Romantic Past). Bob Lewis and Richard Gameche illustrate and Warren refines the images, hand tints and "compact writes" the stories in English and Spanish. All are fact-checked by historians. The Florida Humanities Council chose 15 of them as aids for teaching Florida's Spanish Colonial History. The Visitors and Convention Bureau in St. Augustine-Ponte Vedra, Florida, contracts with us to create 10 heritage art illustrations a year.
Warren Clark was born and raised on the St. Johns River in Jacksonville (Mandarin), and has lived in Tampa since 1982. His professional career was ministry. Warren was the founding director of the state-wide self-help food cooperative program, SHARE Florida. He was a pastor and church worker in the U.S., Argentina and Peru. More recently, Warren was a state-wide Environmental Action Minister.
The Most Unusual Web Page
We are in the flow of history. Many of our illustrations are about people who acted on their visions of a better world. Now it is our time to act on our own vision. No matter what, the future will be dramatic given the challenge of climate disruption! That's why we have an unusual page for an art web site: "Help Save Florida's Future". It is filled with practical ways to reduce carbon emissions and to be effective advocates for a more just and sustainable future ...no matter where you live. We are all co-creating on the largest palette of all: planet Earth. Check it out!

Two talented illustrators collaborate with Warren Clark to co-create our images:
Robert Lewis, Who originally worked with Warren to develop "Lewis and Clark's Explorations of La Florida" Bob has a background in drawing action comic characters, and works in pen and ink for Florida's Romantic Past. "He Put His Sub at Risk" and "La Florida: Name of a Continent" are examples of his work.
Richard Gameche does images in a flowing style using colored pencil for his illustrations with Florida's Romantic Past. "Hello Dali" and "Shoot for the Moon" are examples of his work. .
Translations into Spanish were done by Jesus Felipe Rodriguez, who has a degree in English and Spanish literature. Contact Us if you would like to reach these talented people.
We appreciate volunteers who have contributed to the creation of these images. Historians in Tampa, St. Augustine, Pensacola, St. Petersburg and Gainesville have fact-checked these illustrations; a retired Professor of Marketing at USF has coached our efforts; a Tampa area iltellectual property lawyer has helped with our copywrite licenses. Thank you!
